"Thankyou to the staff"
We stayed at this hotel in November 2005. This was our first trip to Cancun. We arrived on the Wednesday and were evacuated on the Thursday. We stayed in a shelter which was pretty awful but we were safe. We were allowed back into our apartment on the Monday although we had no electricity and running water. After living in a school classroom with 27 others, sleeping on a stone floor on a blanket, and with poor sanitation, our apartment seemed like luxury. The staff made sure we were all fed twice a day and they tried to give us any information available regarding the evacuation of tourists from Cancun. I have nothing but praise for all the staff, the receptionists, the cooks, the cleaners and the waiters who stayed behind to look after us during and after the hurricane when I am sure their own families were also in need of their help. We finally got an emergency flight out of Cancun to Texas after standing from 7am till 2.30pm in the baking sun in the car park of the downtown university building. During our time in Cancun we didnt get to see anything at all except the destruction, but the sight of Cancun from the plane as we were coming in to land with the beautiful turquoise sea and blonde beaches, and the warmth of the Mexican people make me think I might make another trip there at some point, but just not in Hurricane season. My thanks also to the Mexican Government who did a great job looking after us, finding us shelter and giving us food. We also had some good laughs while we were there as everyone mucked in together.
"I am gratful to this hotel and their staff!!!"
hi there i have just returned from 2 weeks in cancun stayin at vci. Whilst there we were unfortunatly hit by hurricane wilma and put into the shelter for 5 days! Before this the hotel was exceptional very clean, staff were alwzys helpful, food in the restuarant was excellent(all day long) and there was a guy who got IN the pool every day to clean it. Ok the sea wasnt electric blue like at the sister hotel royal sands but it was still loovely and people jus walked around gettin u drinks. There was no dodgy vendors on the beach either!!!!
I would just like to say that when we got evacuted 3 members of the staff ( a bell boy, sports coach and a receptionist) 2 of which had familys, came with us to the shelter and did not sleep for 3 days.they slept on wet towels had very few dry clothes. They kept our spirits up looked after us in the height of the storm and cared for the sick. I truly believe that if it wasnt for them we would all have been ill and very unhappy people. We had no power water or electricty and they didnt kno how their familys were but still they stayed and looked after us.
These people are amazing when we were taken back we still had no electric or water so to protect us from lootin we had a curfew at 6pm and security patrolled all night. VCI fed and watered us for 4 days and although cancun is battered at the moment vci are working hard to get it back up and we will be returnin xmas next yr.
"OK - But won't go back..."
Rooms were nice, spacious, well-equipped and the gardens were spectacular. If that's all you're looking for, this place is for you. The beach was not at all nice or inviting - the water was yellow, seaweed and "sea trash" all over, which was not raked up as with other hotels. I never went in the beach water once and did not see any other person in the water on the few occasions I walked down to the beach. We drove to one of the sister resorts and used their beach. I went in the pool once and noticed a black, greasy ring around the whole perimeter. I walked by the other pool and noticed the same ring around it as well. The restaurant was not the greatest. I ate there once and only ordered a shrimp stuffed avocado, but the gentlemen seated next to us returned their fried calamari as "it just didn't taste good" per their comments. The maids gave us only 1 towel per person, per day, which is OK if the towels dried between each shower, which I prefer 2 of each day due to the humidity. I asked the maid for an additional towel and was denied! I just picked one up later off her cart when she wasn't looking. I have never been denied extra towels at any hotel, anywhere. The water in the shower and in the bathroom sink smelled like sulpher, which I did not notice at the other places that we stayed. We arrived one day early and stayed at the Fiesta Americana - Coral Beach. Big mistake, as it spoiled us for the rest of our week at Club International. We went on a day trip to Cozumel and ended up staying (and paying) for two nights since the Playa Azul was so nice, with a very nice snorkel beach. We didn't want to leave and go back to our street and traffic view at Club International. The staff at Club International were nice, but in my opinion, gave us no better service than would be expected at any hotel. Like I said, the room was nice and the grounds were exceptional, and the Club International would be great for inexperienced travelers, families with children, and those who just don't expect or want the best. As for you seasoned travelers, looking for the finer things in life, stay at the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach. Interval International dubbed Club International a 5-Star resort, but I give it a 3. It was missing too many of the things that make up a 5-star resort.
"A Wonderful Place"
We just spent a week at Club International. My wife and I both loved the place. The rooms were spacious and functional. Everything was very clean and well kept.
The grounds and pools were exceptional, as was the beach. The employees were exceptionally well trained and attentive, as well as being extremely nice people. We hope to go back again next year. Our only disappointment was the quality of the food at the beachfront restaurant.
