"Wonderful staff"
I was at a company function in Cancun, Mexico back in July, and have to say the staff there were very friendly and helpful. Our company function had things planned all day and night, yet the staff was there for everything. Not one member complained, or gave any kind of negative attitude.
Each member had a friendly smile that made you feel welcome. If I had a choice to stay, I'd definitely pick the Ritz-Carlton to stay at, due to the friendly staff!

"Perfect place"
My husband and I had the most wonderful time at this resort. This was the very first place we have ever stayed at that was absolutely perfect!!! We highly recommend the spa, private dinner on the beach, and the romantic bath. We will definately return.

"Service was great, maybe not the best value for the buck"
We went there with two kids, ages 3 and almost 6. They both kept saying that they wanted to live there. Service, at pool side, at room and at the restaurants, was great. You need not look around but once to see someone at your side asking what you would like. Concierge, the front desk, and all other staff was helpful and courteous. One note though, one day I did not have any small bills and did not tip the pool side guys and it seems to have an effect on how helpful they were the next day!

The hotel is 12 years old and I did see some areas being re-painted, but that did not distract from the overall cleaniness. I saw them cleaning the stair banisters and scrubbing the balconies.

For a Mexican resort, I expected the dollars to go a bit further, but not so at the "hotel zone" where RC is located. Meals and everything else tend to be pricy and the benefit of poor Mexican economy can only be reaped off the "hotel zone" island.

Mexico is not for the timid, as everyone tries to take advantage of the tourists. Be ready to haggle and question items on the bill that do not look good, as well as the pesos to dollar conversion done by any seller.

One other note, as I read the reviews of this hotel, I see one traveler who thought RC was really poor and he mentioned that he stayed on the 12th floor. I just came back and I stayed on the 4th floor but did note that the highest number on the elevators goes only to 9th floor, so I'm not sure where this guy was!

"Absolutely Fabulous!!"
I have been reading the reviews on the Ritz-Carlton for the past several months because my husband and I just got married there on October 8th! We stayed for 10 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The service was outstanding, the employees were a pleasure to deal with, and the hotel was in terrific shape. They finished fixing the roof that had fallen outside the Mexican Cafe while we were there.

First of all, the wedding coordinator (Gaby) did an outstanding job! I planned the entire event with Gaby via email and she exceeded our expectations. The wedding was beautiful! The food and the servers were outstanding. We don't have any complaints.

We had several family members staying at the hotel with us. Our only complaint, which is really minor, would be the fact that two rooms for family were upgraded to Club level, another room upgraded to full oceanfront, and yet another was upgraded to a beautiful oceanfront suite. We were NOT upgraded and we paid the entire bill for the wedding!! These upgrades were done without being asked for, which was great for everybody else! To be fair, the hotel was completely booked for the weekend because of our wedding and two big conventions. Our families didn't stay for nearly as long as we did and I understand the hotel would have lost money had they put us in a suite for 10 nights, but still...it's our wedding/honeymoon. The manager did offer to move us on day 5, but at that point we really didn't feel like packing up and relocating. Our room was still nice though. There were not signs of wear and tear, and we had a private, larger balcony.
The resort did not feel crowded at all because the conventions had their members in meetings, etc. all day. It worked out perfectly! Our last few days however, vacationers started showing up and the pool/beach was definitely the most crowded it had been. One particular couple with the most obnoxious, self-entitled two children really disgusted us. They literally kept losing their kids and ran around trying to find them. They should leave the children at home next time and/or teach them some manners.

Food: We ate breakfast at the hotel every morning and had the pleasure of Moises being our server just about every day. He is a joy to speak with! We had a rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding at La Casa de las Margaritas in the La Isla shopping center and it was perfect. The food was very nice, terrific service, and it had the casual yet entertaining atmosphere we were hoping for. We ate at the Club Grille twice and Wow!! You must try it once. Food and service are outstanding. And yes, tell them if it's a special occasion-they make it even more memorable!! We had dinner once at Gustino's in the JW Marriott and it was nice, but not anything spectacular.

Spa: You must go to the spa!! We both had the "four hands massage" and were in heaven. Make sure to arrive early to enjoy the other amenities. The shower is amazing!! You just have to see for yourselves!

Obviously, we were very pleased with everything and will be returning. It is a bit more pricey than other places, but you pay for service at the Ritz and great service is what you receive. The entire staff was very excited for us and told us we were "famous" at the hotel because everybody knew about the wedding! Who doesn't like to hear that?!! We have stayed at Le Meridian in the past and it's okay, but not anywhere close to the Ritz. We did walk around the JW and while it's a nice hotel, the pool area is lacking a bit in our opinion. It felt small and uninviting-just our opinion.

Pay the extra for the Ritz and you won't be disappointed!!

One last note about Cancun Valet: We used this van service for airport pickup for family, a day trip to Playa del Carmen, and another trip to Chichen Itza. While they provided accurate service, I was disappointed at their lack of working with us when we inquired about 4 cell phones to distribute to members of our party at other hotels. We gave Grey and Vic (the owners) a lot of business and felt as if they were being greedy about it. We didn't rent phones.

"Amazing and worth it"
I must say that this place is definitely as adverstised on this board. It has an outstanding location, an amazing staff, and just all around great place!

Club Floor: My wife and I stayed on the Club Floor for a four day weekend (yes, it is worth it.) The food presentations and drinks were MORE than enough for us. The only meals we took outside of the club lounge were some dinners.

Spa: Amazing! You must get there 60 minutes before your appointment. If you do, you can take full advantage of the steam room, jacuzzi, showers, etc. I won't spoil it by telling you all of the little touches but DO get there before your treatment and enjoy!

Beach: Great beach and great service on the beach.

Bars: Maginificent views and good cocktails.

Cigars: Gents, try the hand rolled ones that are sold there at the resort. Frankly, I liked them better than the Cubans.

Restaurants: The Glub Grille is the essence of Haut Cuisine. The food is magnificent and the service is off the charts.

Hint: If you are celebrating a special occaison of ANY kind, be sure to share it whenever making any reservations. They truly make the occaision special.

Cost: I call it a true "Diseny Experience". That is what I call situations where you pay HUGE amounts of money for a vacation experience but do not regret a penny of it. Yes, it is expensive but you will sign your bill with a big smile. Don't sweat it and don't look too close!

Kids: If you have kids and want to bring them, great. That is your call and your money. However, do us all a favor and tell the kids they are getting the PRIVILEDGE of being at a place for ADULTS. This is a GROWN-UP place and not a family place. I saw several well-behaved kids who can sit next to me during a $200 meal, anytime. They were pleasant and respectful. I also saw several kids who should not be allowed outside of Chuck-E-Cheese much less the Club Floor. I am the father of a 7-year old and can tell you that IF I brought her with me, she would be on a VERY short leash. She and your kids need to know that their behavior should be at its best (except on the beach where they can be kids and so should you).
