Roissy- Charles de Gaulle is the only international airport in Paris which is located 23 kilometers away from the city proper. It straddles the junction between three departments Val d’ Oise, Seine- et- Marne and Seine- Saint- Denis in Ile- de- France. It features three terminals and one railway station.
In the otherhand, Orly is just a national airport in Paris which is located 14 kilometers away from the city proper. It is connected to the downtown area of the city by the automatic metro known as the Orlyval. This is train service to RER that can immediately bring you to the heart of the metropolis. It leaves 10 minutes and the journey is approximately 8 minutes long. It highlights two terminals in the west and south with a free shuttle service.
Both of these airports in Paris offer an extensive amenities and special facilities such as duty- free shops, car rentals, restaurants, hotels, post offices and ground transport into the metropolis center.
Upon approaching the baggage claim areas in either of the two, be sure to avail yourself of the carts with no cost that are generally parked next to the luggage carrousels or conveyor belts. They will save you considerable effort in navigating to the exits. Remember that as a precaution against terrorist incidents, they have eliminated all short-term lockers.
Even if you do not know how to speak in French, let it not be a problem because the staff in the airports in Paris are acquainted with English. You can greet them with “Bonjour, Madame or Monsieur” for courtesy purposes and they will all be ready to give an answer to your question. There are also clearly marked information desks to assist with any queries or directions.

A private van is an affordable alternative to the high cost of cabs where the price depends on the meter. Airports in Paris provides a fleet if air- conditioned, non- smoking, 8- passenger minivans with English- speaking drivers that will carry your bags and take you safely from Roissy- Charles de Gaulle or Orly to any of your desired destination.
The Air France Bus is another option, an express shuttle which runs between the airport and the Arc de Triomphe or Porte Maillot. It operates at 5:45am to 11:00pm with departure every 15 minutes. A one way ticket costs Eur12 for adults and eur6 for children. Groups of four or more may enjoy a 15% discount. Another is the Roissy Bus, a special RATP service between the two airports in Paris and 9e arrondissement which is near the Opera Garnier.
