Fact is that Moulin Rouge Paris has been worldly acclaimed through the Cancan which was immortalized by the painter Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec. This has always presented sumptuous shows to its spectators from Valenttin-le-Desossee and La Goulue’s Quadrille to the redoutes and operettas, from Colette to Mistinguett’s great revues.
A lot of foreign personalities have experienced how is it to be on stage at Moulin Rouge Paris. They are Ella Fitzgerald, Liza Minelli, Frank Sinatra and Elton John. They have given exceptional galas following in the footsteps of native- born celebrities such as Maurice Chevalier, Jean Gabin, Edith Piaf and Yves Montand.
In retrospect, Moulin Rouge Paris came into being in the period of transition between two centuries. It was here that the social barriers were collapsed, middle- class mixed with riffraff and the culture was enhanced in a contented disorder full of vitality. It was an atmosphere that favored artistic creativity and literary circles with painters getting inspired by the joyful outrage but with much fancy breaking the rigid classicism. The Japonism, artistic movement inspired by objects originating in Japan, stirred the French to adopt such style to their kind of arts. The mood fitted perfectly with the appearance of the first cabarets such as Moulin Rouge in 1889.
On the 6th of October, at the foot of Butte Montmarte, Moulin Rouge Paris was opened to the public. It was the buzz word in the society no matter what class they belonged. The public arrived in droves to discover the extravagant place with its huge dance floor, mirrors everywhere and elegant galleries. Aristocrats and louts in caps where present in an environment of utmost euphoria. The masters of the venue were Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler. They nicknamed their establishment Le Premier Palais Des Femmes (The First Woman Palace).
Today, the new show entitled “Feerie” continues the tradition of Moulin Rouge Paris. It consists of a troupe of 100 artists including 60 Doris girls recruited worldwide. There are about 1,000 costumes set- up in the most famous Parisian workshops. Backdrop is uniquely conceptualized by an Italian designer with the most outstanding international acts and the much- awaited return of the giant aquarium. This has been realized by both Haug and Angeletti showcasing fresh themes like Sandokan and The Circus.
Not only is Moulin Rouge Paris a legendary cabaret, it has also been evolved as a place to dine in 1959. The restaurant was integrated in Bal Du Moulin Rouge. Every night, at the sound of the orchestra, more than 800 persons taste the delectable foie gras with jelly and armagnac, smoked salmon from Scotland, filet mignon of beef wit morilles crèmes, lamb roasted with thyme and iced nougat with honey, among many other recipes prepared by Chef Laurent Tarridec served with finest wines and champagnes.
