"Absolutely amazing"
This is a truly remarkable hotel... I had the best time, staff is fantastic, romantic ambiance, there are candles all over the place at night, food is great... what else can I say? It truly was a wonderful experience!!!

"Incredible time at Maroma!"
My boyfriend and I went to Maroma to spend our 1 year anniversary and it was incredilble!! I began reading reviews on this message board the night before we went and became very nervous at some of the reviews that I read. I'm not sure what these people were thinking! From the moment that you drive into the gates of the resort, you realize that you have just been transplanted to true paradise. The entire resort is lit by votive candles at night. You are greeted at the front door with a margarita and get a tour of the grounds.

Our room was amazing and was cleaned 2x a day and at night, candles were lit along with aromatherapy. The only bad thing is the bathroom is basically in the bedroom with shutter doors. If you are not comfortable with the person that you are staying with, you might want separate rooms or become very friendly with the lobby bathroom.

As far as activities, there aren't many. You come to Maroma to do nothing but relax. We spent every morning at the beach and the afternoons by the pool. It was perfect. We went snorkeling one day but I found it to be really rough and didn't love it. Otherwise, you can order food right on the beach, they have beds set up on the absolutely to die for white sand beach. water is gorgeous.

The staff couldn't have been better or nicer. the spa is beautiful, i took a yoga class one morning which was spectacular at the top of a tower.

One night we went into town which definitely was not worth it. very touristy and we wished we were back at the hotel.

as far as food, i am a vegetarian so it was a bit difficult for me to eat but the food was good. i just did not have as much variation as everyone else. but they were very accomodating to my needs.

I definitely recommend Maroma!

oh - and tom cruise was there vacationing with katie holmes while we were there, which was fun!

"Where's the service?"
Having read all the mostly good reviews, I was dismayed at my experience. Yes, I am a particular and experienced traveler, and I must remember that this is in fact, Mexico...but, the prices are outrageous, and if you are happy just being on a nice beach, maybe you will find value, but I did not. Maroma started out as a private estate and the architectural details are stunning. Many years ago it opened to the public as a first rate small resort, with the owner stolling the property attending to details. Now it is part of a chain. The rooms are sufficiently nice, though our tub did not drain well, and the amenities are the same as a Best Western. The real problems are the wild prices being paid for mediocre services and food. Our expensive dinners were very average fare. The waitstaff was oblivious to people needing water, or people pooring their own $80 bottles of wine. The rolls were from the local Sam's club or some such place. My 5 piece shrimp beach lunch (nothing else!) was $18.00 with services. Every morning we had a standing request for coffee at 7:00 am, in room, and daily by 7:20 we had to call requesting our coffee and then it showed up. Is this a $600 night property? But perhaps the most offensive insult was the construction that was happening behind our room. When I booked the room through the parent company, Orient Express, they promised me the hotel was "built out" and there would be no construction. It's too bad they are so ill informed about their own properties. The drilling was so bad, we could not rest in our room during the day. What is great about this place is the surroundings, which nature bestowed upon this bay with generosity. The Italian club next door brings less privacy to Maromas area, but that's about it....more bodies, less exclusivity. The candle lit paths are enchanting, as is the turn down servivce. And in general, the Maya people are delightful. But, if you do stay here, I suspect you have more money than discriminating taste, because this place will cost about $900 per day with all your meals and snacks, and for that, I really want the bliss. There is a real disconnect between the prices and the services.

"Relaxation in Paradise"
This is definitely the place for those of you looking to get away from it all!! We celebrated my husbands 40th birthday away from our young children. He actually was able to relax - no crying kids!!! The spa is GREAT...Book your treatments early because they fill up quickly. Bertha gives the BEST massages. Hot stone treatment is wonderful, as is the mud wrap. The spa is gorgeous and will not disappoint, however, do not get a pedicure - over priced for what you get... The food is outstanding and not over priced for the location.. winelist prices were a bit high - but who wants wine in Tequila country!!!!! Maroma is magically romantic... The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are rustic and very authentic.. The service was good to great at times.. We would go back here in a minute.. Fantastico!!!
