"Great Resort"
We stayed here during Christmas of 2004. Our room was decorated nice and was very clean. We stayed at three resorts during our week in Cancun because we were using accumulated free nights from my husband's frequent travel and we liked this place the best!
"Wish we had got to have our holiday!"
We arrived late after 24 hours awake travelling from London and immediately fell in love with our location. Our beachfront villa was gorgeous and the personnel were simply lovely. The plan was to spend one night and then return after a 5 night tour of the Yucatan for a week by the pool. The night we spent was lovely, waking up to our balcony with a view of the turqouise caribbean sea was breathtaking. The food was yummy too! We looked at the infinity pool and commented how great it would be to come back in a few days time and have a swim. Wilma rescheduled our holiday and we never got to return. We hope everyone is safe and really hope to get the chance to return to our beachfront room sometime in the not to far distant future.
"hilton not 5 star"
Just returned from hilton, had booked a beachside villa, not what I had expected. Just a basic hotel room, average size, but located on the beach. One chair to sit in, nothing extra in room. The inclusive breakfast and snacks during the day were worth it as we just had drinks during day from there.Staff there were very good. Ate one night in pizza restaurant, food fine. Beach was little pebbly but not bad, very clean. Pools were excellent. Gym was a joke, 2 treadmills and few weights, old one was being remodelled but since I had packed all of my gym gear they should have been more upfront about that. Buses into town were plentiful and cheap and fast, no need for taxis. I had booked taxi to pick me up at airport on arrival through hotel and felt I was stung by cost of $45. The hotel is first main one on beach road and so is furthest away from town so no noise. Shopping was not that great, usual teeshirt and cheap trinkets. Plenty of US restaurants but prices steep as they always are in vacation resorts.
"1ST TRIP TO CANCUN & GLAD WE STAYED @ THE HILTON"
This was our 1st trip to Cancun. My mother's first time to see the ocean. It was very beautiful but unfortunately she just couldn't get passed the big rocks all along the beach.
Karla, at the front desk, went above & beyond and she gets our greatest kudo's.
After getting out and about in town, the Hilton had the best exchange rate for usd. The food was alright, but the breakfast buffet is a little expensive. Make sure to eat at the La Distelleria.
The views from the hotel are perfect, especially overlooking the pool area.
Make sure to take the time to go to Ruins del Ray. It's well worth the $3 and in walking distance. Otherwise, we strongly recommend the "blue" buses. The "loco" buses can make for a very exciting ride w/no a/c and hard seats.
"Worked for us."
We stayed at a ocean front villa. Awesome! We were no more than 15 yards from the beach and the view was postcard quality. The whole villa experience was great. You are separate from the main hotel and get to use a special lounge for the included breakfast, light snacks for lunch and cocktails, light snacks for dinner. Breakfast was the best, don't count on a great selection of food for lunch and dinner. But enough food to hold you over until you hit the several great resturants in town or on the zone. Did not eat at any of the hotels resturants. We got a great rate of $159 a night thru the Hilton web site.
The room was clean and functional, but who cares when you are staring out at the ocean all the time. The staff at the villa's were always helpful and friendly. The villa is the way to go. We would stay here again.
Tips for 1st timers;
1. Use the bus, 6.5 peso for non a/c, $1 for a/c bus.
All the bus drivers were helpfull, but drove like race car drivers. But safe.
2. Use the Cancun discount card.
3. Downtown resturants are worth the trip.
4. Over 30 club for good music, good time and good drinks without all the party zone maddness.
5. Do your homework on the internet for tours. Again we saved money using the Cancun discount card.
6. Having lots of $1 bills is great for tipping and we never saw a bus driver refuse to accept them and also give change; in pesos of course.
7. Xei-Ha was excellent thru Grayline.
8. Don't be afraid to ask for a better price even in the shopping malls.
9. Alway have plenty of water with you.
10. Everything at the hotel is going to be over priced.
11. Don't sweat the little things, have fun.
