This Cancun Hotel Worked for us.
We stayed at a ocean front villa. Awesome! We were no more than 15 yards from the beach and the view was postcard quality. The whole villa experience was great. You are separate from the main hotel and get to use a special lounge for the included breakfast, light snacks for lunch and cocktails, light snacks for dinner. Breakfast was the best, don’t count on a great selection of food for lunch and dinner. But enough food to hold you over until you hit the several great resturants in town or on the zone. Did not eat at any of the Cancun hotels resturants. We got a great rate of $159 a night thru the Hilton web site.
The room was clean and functional, but who cares when you are staring out at the ocean all the time. The staff at the villa’s were always helpful and friendly. The villa is the way to go. We would stay here again.
Tips for 1st timers;
1. Use the bus, 6.5 peso for non a/c, $1 for a/c bus.
All the bus drivers were helpfull, but drove like race car drivers. But safe.
2. Use the Cancun discount card.
3. Downtown Cancun resturants are worth the trip.
4. Over 30 club for good music, good time and good drinks without all the party zone maddness.
5. Do your homework on the internet for tours. Again we saved money using the Cancun discount card.
6. Having lots of $1 bills is great for tipping and we never saw a bus driver refuse to accept them and also give change; in pesos of course.
7. Xei-Ha was excellent thru Grayline.
8. Don’t be afraid to ask for a better price even in the Cancun shopping malls.
9. Alway have plenty of water with you.
10. Everything at the hotel is going to be over priced.
11. Don’t sweat the little things, have fun in Cancun.

Perfect Honeymoon
My wife(23) and I(24) stayed at the Marriot in June of 05. We had the time of our lives. The rooms are clean and the service is great. When I arrived I told the front desk that it was our honeymoon. When we got back from dinner that night our bed was covered in rose petals. There was a path of rose petals to the bathroom that lead to word love spelled out in rose petals on the floor. The tub was also filled with warm water and rose petals. My wife was very pleased to say the least. Better yet, it did not cost me a penny extra. Of course I never told my wife this-lol. The pool was huge and the service was great around the pool area. The beach was also clean and there were plenty of places to lay out. The spa was incredible as well. It smelled great. Just walking up to the front desk at the spa totally relaxes you–a must if you go. The price was also reasonable compared to other hotels of the same rating. The restaraunts are also nice and the service is great. Any time we needed anything the staff was very responsive. They are quick to help with directions and advice. The whole place was beautiful and clean. I can’t wait to go back.
My only complaint is that the beds were hard. However, we made a call to the front desk and the maid put a feather matress on the bed.
My wife and I had the time of our lives in Cancun largely in part to the Marriot. We are not into the party scene, but that was not a problem. Cancun is what you make of it. Our trip was the most romantic and relaxing time I have ever had in my life. We can’t wait to return.

Absolutely Fabulous!!
I have been reading the reviews on the Cancun Ritz-Carlton for the past several months because my husband and I just got married there on October 8th! We stayed for 10 nights and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The service was outstanding, the employees were a pleasure to deal with, and the hotel was in terrific shape. They finished fixing the roof that had fallen outside the Mexican Cafe while we were there.
First of all, the wedding coordinator (Gaby) did an outstanding job! I planned the entire event with Gaby via email and she exceeded our expectations. The wedding was beautiful! The food and the servers were outstanding. We don’t have any complaints.
We had several family members staying at the Cancun hotel with us. Our only complaint, which is really minor, would be the fact that two rooms for family were upgraded to Club level, another room upgraded to full oceanfront, and yet another was upgraded to a beautiful oceanfront suite. We were NOT upgraded and we paid the entire bill for the wedding!! These upgrades were done without being asked for, which was great for everybody else! To be fair, the Cancun hotel was completely booked for the weekend because of our wedding and two big conventions. Our families didn’t stay for nearly as long as we did and I understand the hotel would have lost money had they put us in a suite for 10 nights, but still…it’s our wedding/honeymoon. The manager did offer to move us on day 5, but at that point we really didn’t feel like packing up and relocating. Our room was still nice though. There were not signs of wear and tear, and we had a private, larger balcony.
The Cancun resort did not feel crowded at all because the conventions had their members in meetings, etc. all day. It worked out perfectly! Our last few days in Cancun however, vacationers started showing up and the pool/beach was definitely the most crowded it had been. One particular couple with the most obnoxious, self-entitled two children really disgusted us. They literally kept losing their kids and ran around trying to find them. They should leave the children at home next time and/or teach them some manners.
Food: We ate breakfast at the Cancun hotel every morning and had the pleasure of Moises being our server just about every day. He is a joy to speak with! We had a rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding at La Casa de las Margaritas in the La Isla shopping center and it was perfect. The food was very nice, terrific service, and it had the casual yet entertaining atmosphere we were hoping for. We ate at the Club Grille twice and Wow!! You must try it once. Food and service are outstanding. And yes, tell them if it’s a special occasion-they make it even more memorable!! We had dinner once at Gustino’s in the JW Marriott and it was nice, but not anything spectacular.
Spa: You must go to the spa!! We both had the “four hands massage” and were in heaven. Make sure to arrive early to enjoy the other amenities. The shower is amazing!! You just have to see for yourselves!
Obviously, we were very pleased with everything and will be returning. It is a bit more pricey than other places, but you pay for service at the Ritz and great service is what you receive. The entire staff was very excited for us and told us we were “famous” at the hotel because everybody knew about the wedding! Who doesn’t like to hear that?!! We have stayed at Le Meridian in the past and it’s okay, but not anywhere close to the Ritz. We did walk around the JW and while it’s a nice hotel, the pool area is lacking a bit in our opinion. It felt small and uninviting-just our opinion.
Pay the extra for the Ritz and you won’t be disappointed!!
One last note about Cancun Valet: We used this van service for airport pickup for family, a day trip to Playa del Carmen, and another trip to Chichen Itza. While they provided accurate service, I was disappointed at their lack of working with us when we inquired about 4 cell phones to distribute to members of our party at other hotels. We gave Grey and Vic (the owners) a lot of business and felt as if they were being greedy about it. We didn’t rent phones.
